Yachtmaster Offshore

With our specially selected teaching base and our professionally run courses you can expect to experience the very best of yachting on the French Riviera. Ideally located in the Port du Golfe-Juan we are at the very heart of the cote d’Azur, just a stones throw away from the famous yachting hub of Antibes and round the corner from the beautiful bay of Cannes.

Course Description

What is often referred to as the Yachtmaster (Offshore) Practical course is in actual fact a ‘Preparation’ course for the Yachtmaster exam you are required to pass in order to achieve your Yachtmaster (Offshore) certificate. There is no set duration for this course as the level of experience and knowledge our students have may vary. Generally however most of our students take the full four days in the run up to their exam to ensure they are fully prepared having covered all the necessary topics. During your exam the examiner will look at your boat handling, your understanding of all aspects of boating, your navigation techniques and your ability to take command of and manage your vessel and its crew. In the run up to your exam your instructor will therefore cover safety, boat handling, general seamanship & maintenance, responsibilities as skipper, navigation, meteorology and lights & signals.

This course is a popular choice for both recreational boaters looking to achieve the top level of certification in leisure boating and professional yacht crew required to skipper commercial motor cruisers up to 24m. This course is also particularly useful for professional crew looking to progress to a Masters role on a larger yacht.

Over the years we have found that a great number of our students taking this exam have limited time on their hands, getting ready for the Summer or even have a job depending on the qualification. RSS have therefore created an intensive two week package which includes the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster shorebased course, VHF SRC, the 4 day Practical Preparation course and finally the Yachtmaster (offshore) exam.

Pre Course Requirements

Although not a compulsory requirement we do generally recommend that all our students embarking on this preparation course and examination first complete the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster shorebased course.

Pre Exam Requirements

In order to take the Yachtmaster (Offshore) exam you must have first completed the VHF SRC, hold a valid First Aid certificate (STCW or equivalent), covered 2500 sea miles (half in tidal waters), 5 passages over 60 miles, 2 at night & 2 as skipper and 50 days at sea.
