Commercial Endorsements

If you seeking employment on a commercial vessel, you will be required to prove that you have undergone the necessary additional training.

Here at Riviera Sea School we have found that the following are the most popular certificates to be endorsed

Powerboat Level 2 Coastal Certificate of Competence

Yachtmaster offshore & Yachtmater Ocean Certificates of Competence

The certificate you require will depend on the waters in which you intend to operate. A full list of RYA courses that are suitable for endorsement and their specific areas of operation can be found on the Commercial Endorsement application form at the bottom of this page.

To apply for a standard commercial endorsement (working on British flagged vessels) you will require the following:

1. Your original certificate

2. A commercial endorsement application form

3. An ML5 or ENG-1 medical fitness certificate (visit our blog page for further information on medical certificates)

4. A copy of your RYA Basic Sea survival certificate or Personal Survival Techniques STCW95

5. A passport sized photograph with your name on the back

6. The relevant fee

Should you be working under non-UK maritime authorities you will be required to hold the following certification in addition to your certificate of competence; STCW Personal Survival Techniques, Personal Safety & Social Responsibility, Elementary  First Aid and Fire Fighting & Fire Prevention.

A commercial endorsement will last for five years and providing you have gained the necessary experience within this time and hold a valid first aid certificate renewal of your commercial endorsement is a simple paperwork exercise.

NEW INFORMATION: From April 2012, those wishing to apply for or renew their commercial endorsement will be required to complete an online training course. This update aims to help professional crew prepare for additional responsibilities.  Watch this space for further information.
