PART I – INTRO, STEERING AND SAILING RULES

IRPCS (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea) are set out by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and exist for all seafarers to follow. Although mostly common sense it is the seafarers responsibility these rules are followed at all times, keeping watch, traveling at a safe speed and assessing every maneuver for the risk of collision.

The IRPCS are not only vital for the safety of all water users but provide a clear line that separates inland and coastal waterways which differ in rules and regulations. Calling all new deckies!

Super Yacht

As I am sure most of you are aware, it takes an enthusiastic spirit, a hard working attitude and a bit of good luck to land yourself that dream job on the perfect boat. You will however, also have noticed that these good qualities are sometimes not always enough to seal the deal. A certain set of qualifications are now becoming an absolute must for hiring Captains and their yachts. The STCW95 Basic Safety Training is of course a new crew members first priority. Secondly though, and especially for deckies, is the good old ‘Tender License’.
